Bobi Bosson is a Long Beach artist who is multidisciplinary in her work. She has worked on pieces ranging from paintings to sculptures to print making. Bosson was originally planning on taking a different career path and then realized that she loved art so much that she was going to get a degree in art and design. Bosson is consistently getting inspired by her everyday life and believes that anything in life can inspire a person, you just have to find it. Bosson does not consider herself an activist or feminist artist but does recognize that most of her pieces relate to the female body and the social and environmental issues that are happening in this time. She has said that the female body is so beautiful and that is why she is drawn to it and the issues like equality and climate change are important movements that influence her. Her art has many different mediums and deals with multiple issues that influence her beautiful pieces.

Bosson’s art has many different formal qualities in her pieces because she uses so many different materials but they do have a similar theme to them. Her pieces deal with a lot of texture like layering. In many of her prints, whether it be screen prints or mono prints, there are multiple images or words layered over another. When you look at a piece, each time you are able to find something that you didn’t see before, making her pieces very interactive. This layering is seen in her sculptures and paintings, as well. Bosson’s color themes are very vibrant and colorful. I see her using a lot of pinks and colors that accent the images that she is painting. There is color all over her pieces and it really draws the audience’s eye into it, as well as very bold and in your images. These strong images create a very empowering feel to the pieces.

Bosson’s pieces are commonly about social and environmental issues that are arising in our society to this day. A lot of her pieces have to do with the female body showing their shapes and curves. This relates to the movement of women taking their bodies back and realizing that all body types are beautiful and show be praised. The womanly figure is truly beautiful and tranquil. A very big issue that has been shown through Bobi’s art is the Black Lives Matter movement. There has been an injustice in our society that has gone on for far too long and we as a society are trying to change and educate people on what true equality looks like. Another issue would be pollution and the effect that it has on our environment. Bosson was able to use single used plastic that was pulled from the water and created an eye opening sculpture that demonstrates the amount of non compostable trash that we just throw away and then never think about again. These are all issues that affect almost everyone in some shape or form and Bobi makes sure that they are brought to light through her artwork.

I was truly amazed when I saw the pieces of art that involved female appreciation and empowerment that is not always shown in everyday life. I have always thought the female figure was so empowering and strong but beautiful and elegant at the same time. As a female I have had to deal with others judging and having opinions about my body my whole life until recently, where all bodies are loved and valued. This has given me a new confidence that I have gained in myself that I never had before. Seeing Bobi’s art pieces reminded me of that feeling and just the elegance and strength that those pieces represent. They are truly beautiful.
