About The Artist

Tim Collom is a local artist of East Sacramento and paints with vibrant colors to capture the bright life of California. He grew up in Redwood city and went to California State University Long Beach, where he then moved to Sacramento. He was planning on staying in Sacramento only for a while but he planted roots and actually began a successful career in selling houses. Painting started off as a hobby for him. He started to get more recognition for his art and he became a strong and beloved Sacramento artist and relator. He still paints and sells houses to this day. Since he has started he has opened his own gallery and is in many local and known galleries.

Formal Analysis

Tim Collom’s work uses a lot of very vibrant and bright colors. His work is almost always some kind of landscape that is showing the beach or something like the mountains. This is outlined in bold and vibrant colors and create a solid picture. He uses thick and small lines. The think lines are usually around the part of the piece that is meant to be the focal point. The colors that he uses are very clear and he builds his colors through layering and blending. His art is not realistic but it isn’t abstract either. His painting seem to have a raised texture from the layering of paint which give the illusion of feathers, for example, on his chicken painting.

Content Analysis

Tim Collom’s paintings instantly give a feeling of liveliness and happiness. They are paintings that when you look at them you can not help but smile. His bright and beautiful colors automatically catch your eye. There is a feeling of good when you look at his art. Some of his pieces do not have color and even those radiate a sense of comfort and happiness. It really does embody the sense of California. There is a feeling of calm and almost relaxation when looking at his art pieces and it is a really good feeling. I could totally see people having his paintings up in their house to bring light and happiness to the area.

Synthesis/ My Experience

I re4ally like the work that Tim Collom creates. It is so cool to see him painting scenes that are inspired by places that I have been to or seen. It is really hard to explain but I love the pieces that he creates. I think it is the colors and the way he depicts images. It is also really cool that he works and lives in East Sacramento which is where I live. His art gallery is about 5 to 10 minutes away from my house. I could easily go visit it after COVID 19 has passed and see his work in person.
